Anytime you put a pair of lefties on the couch together, Social Hour is bound to take some wacky turns.

And, sure, Tuesday’s episode did just that, as we touched on everything from overrated foods to baseball’s best trash talkers to the greatest sports moments we’ve ever witnessed with co-hosts Randy Jones and Chris Ello.

But there was still a lot of Padres talk, obviously, including two big points that illuminated themselves even further in San Diego’s 6-4 loss at Pittsburgh in Game 1 of the series.

AT LEAST THEY HOMEREDmyers

We mentioned, much to Randy’s delighted surprise, that the Padres still have an active home run streak ongoing. Their run of 25 straight games with a homer obviously ended more than a week ago. But San Diego entered play Tuesday with a road home run streak still in tact, at 17 games in a row. Well, thanks to late Wil Myers and Jabari Blash bombs, the Padres have now gone yard in 18 straight games away from Petco, which is the fifth-longest streak in National League history. Ahead of them now and in the crosshairs this road trip are the following:

  • 2014 Nationals: 22 games
  • 2000 Astros: 20 games
  • 1953 Dodgers: 20 games
  • 2002 Pirates: 19 games

PERDOMO PROBLEMS

We gave you these solid Luis Perdomo stats entering his latest start Tuesday: a 3-3 record his last 7 starts; a respectable 4.07 ERA in that stretch, considering how his season started; an impressive 28:11 K:BB over those same 7 starts, not to mention the highest ground ball rate (57.7%) of any MLB pitcher with 80+ IP this season, and a Padres record of 7-4 in his starts this year. perdomoBut we also lamented the fact that Perdomo still seems incapable of getting past the hurdle of the one disastrous inning, which plagued him again Tuesday night. This time, it was a 4-run fourth inning that blew up in his face. Perdomo entered the rotation full-time at the start of July. Since then, there have been 6 times where more than half the number of runs he gave up in a game all came in just one bad inning. He’s already been a revelation this season, but this will be the next step in Perdomo’s evolution.

ON THE NEXT SOCIAL HOUR

Co-hosts Bill Center and Derek Togerson join me to recap Game 1 of Padres-Pirates and preview Game 2. We’ll also be talking the future of Yangervis Solarte and what perspective the fans should have with this San Diego youth brigade. Join us at 3:00 PT on Padres.com/SocialHour, FOX Sports San Diego, or ESPN 1700!
